{"id":26,"date":"2017-04-04T17:42:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T17:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.huc.edu\/cal\/?p=26"},"modified":"2020-11-20T16:59:05","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T21:59:05","slug":"a-new-edition-of-djpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.huc.edu\/cal\/a-new-edition-of-djpa\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Edition of DJPA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Just a brief note to alert readers to the appearance of a \u201cThird Revised and Expanded Edition\u201d of Sokoloff\u2019s&nbsp;<em>A Dictionary of Jewish Palestinian Aramaic<\/em>&nbsp;by Bar-Ilan University Press, Ramat Gan, 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major changes would seem to be the incorporation of or reactions to comments by reviewers to the earlier edition and the incorporation of material from Genizah magical texts published after the appearance of the first edition. Citations of forms from Syriac and CPA are now in the \u201cnative\u201d fonts of those dialects, though the use of the latter is unlikely to be of help to most users of this dictionary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not quite sure, though, why he calls it an \u201cexpanded\u201d edition. Indeed it is \u201ccontracted,\u201d inasmuch as there is no index of passages, an invaluable feature of the earlier editions. \u00a0One may assume that Press pressures may be responsible both for the subtitle and the lack.
